- Monitor and research current and relevant emerging policy issues.
- Advise product and engineering teams serving the German market on sustainability issues.
- Research and analyze technical and business issues as well as current best practices related to sustainability to make strong compelling recommendations for high impact programs that align with Google's overall sustainability strategy and with Germany's political "Energiewende" (energy transformation) goals.
- Incubate projects. Find creative ways to structure and launch projects and work cross functionally with other internal teams to leverage resources most effectively to have substantial impact.
- Build compelling cases for projects that will create excitement and consensus among cross-functional teams and motivate executives. Advocate/champion projects with executives.
- Manage internal and external sustainability initiatives including existing vendor relationships and internal business partners. Work with internal partners to establish and report on regional sustainability efforts.
- Be the technical expert within the German context. Keep abreast of latest sustainability trends as well as those specific to technology; ensure research, best practices, and new methods of measuring impact are disseminated among internal teams, acting as key contributor and providing support to various teams.
Minimum Qualifications:
- MS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University (3.8 GPA).
- 4 years experience in management consulting with an energy efficiency & sustainability focus.
- 1 year German Chancellor Fellowship in solar policy with the German Solar Industry Association.
- Demonstration of excellent performance through increasing levels of responsibility.
- International network across government agencies, utilities, financial institutions, technology providers, and industry associations.
Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in diverse aspects of sustainability, including: energy efficiency, renewable energy, smart grid, electricity markets, corporate and local government sustainability initiatives, green buildings (LEED AP O+M), and transportation.
- Understanding of Google's culture of innovation through years spent living and working in the Silicon Valley region.
- Familiarity with basic computer science and computer system concepts.
- Ability to structure ambiguous problems, model potential outcomes, work independently, and deliver high quality results from conception through execution.
- Distinctive problem solving and analytical skills, combined with impeccable business judgment and ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with highly technical management team.
